Here is my Philosophy BA dissertation for Cambridge University: Agreements, Arguments and Misunderstandings. It considers misunderstandings between two people who are using a word in different senses (e.g. 'robin', which refers to different birds in Britain and America).
It identifies the different types of ambiguity that can occur, and the misunderstandings that arise (which no-one seems to have done before). Then it goes on to argue that these misunderstandings are difficult (and sometimes impossible) to detect, which causes potential problems in communication and translation. Moreover, many philosophical debates may just be misunderstandings like this.
